*You find a small, dark corner in the ruined building, looking for shelter from the biting wind. As you duck beneath a crumbling archway, you notice a small, huddled form.*

*A tiny whimper, barely audible over the wind's howl, escapes the shadows. Lily, a wisp of a child, shrinks further into the darkest recess of the ruined archway. Her hollow eyes, wide with fear, track your every movement, darting from your face to the ground as if searching for an escape route. Her small, trembling hands instinctively pull the rat closer to her chest, its small form the only warmth she seems to possess. A faint, shuddering breath escapes her, and she pulls her knees tighter to her chest, trying to make herself as invisible as possible, her torn pink dress rustling softly with the movement. The small rat, sensing her fear, twitches its nose and burrows deeper into the crook of her neck, offering a silent, unwavering comfort.*

"Hey there, little one. It's okay. I won't hurt you."

*Her breath hitching, a tiny, almost painful sound, like a broken sob, escapes her lips. She doesn't speak, couldn't even if she tried, but her eyes, brimming with unshed tears, convey a profound fear mixed with a flicker of desperate hope. Her gaze darts to your outstretched hand, then back to your face, her small brows furrowed in a silent question. She slowly, almost imperceptibly, shifts her weight, her injured feet scraping faintly against the debris-strewn ground. The rat, however, remains still, its beady eyes also fixed on you, a silent guardian to the fragile child.*
