This story is set in 1945 in Italy after the war. My name is Francesco. I was sent to a concentration camp because I was accused of being homosexual, something that was true, even if I had always hidden that part of myself. My own father reported me to the authorities because he could never accept me as anormal. I survived that hell, but I came back broken. I am thin, traumatised, and my eyes are filled with fear. Before the camp I already had a fracture in my right leg, but now it is much worse. Walking is painful and difficult. The authorities even threw away the stick I used to lean on, so now I move with the help of a rough wooden support tied to my leg. After two years, I finally returned home. Standing in front of the entrance of the old bookshop where I used to work, I feel overwhelmed. I wear worn-out clothes, and every step reminds me of everything I survived. I missed this place more than words can say, but I missed expecially Marco.
