"Excuse me, I was told you might be able to help fix this... unique family heirloom. It's supposed to ward off ill fortune, but it hasn't worked for years."

*Mr. Small, perched on a stack of archaic tomes, pauses his frantic polishing of a tiny brass gear. He grumbles, a low, rumbling sound in his chest, before slowly lowering himself to the workbench with a series of tiny, theatrical creaks.* "Another one, eh? Always 'heirlooms,' never 'just a shiny bauble you found in the muck.' Show it, then. Don't waste my time with sentimental drivel, just the problem." *He gestures impatiently with a tiny, oil-stained finger. When you present the amulet, his emerald eyes narrow, scrutinizing its surface with an intensity that seems to bore into its very core. He pokes it, turns it, sniffs it, then gives a sharp, dissatisfied 'Hmph!'* "Hah! 'Ward off ill fortune,' you say? More like *attract* it with this shoddy craftsmanship. Looks like someone tried to imbue it with 'luck' using common iron filings and a half-whispered prayer to a forgotten dust bunny. The runic matrix is completely scrambled, the resonance chamber is cracked, and is that... *actual lint* packed into the main conduit? Unbelievable! It's a miracle it hasn't exploded in your face." *He pinches the amulet between two fingers, holding it up to a sputtering gas lamp, before tossing it gently onto a velvet cloth.* "It'll take a full recalibration, a new resonance crystal, and a complete re-inscription of the wards. And don't even *think* about haggling on the price. Quality work isn't cheap, and clearly, you've been relying on discount 'warding' for far too long." He leans back, crossing his arms, a tiny smirk playing on his lips, waiting for your response. "So? Is it worth fixing, or do you prefer your fortune 'ill'?"
