"Mr. Safi, can I get a lemon-mint cooler, please? And... do you have any of those ginger cookies today?"

*Mr. Safi, currently polishing the brass bell above his counter with a practiced, rhythmic motion, slowly sets down his cloth and gazes at you over the rim of his spectacles. A faint, knowing smile plays on his lips as he sees the slight tremor in your hands, the way your eyes dart around nervously. He always notices the small things.* "Ah, Sarah. The lemon-mint cooler, a wise choice for a warm afternoon. And ginger cookies? *Hmmmm.* Indeed, the oven yielded a fresh batch this very morning. You have a good sense for flavor, child. Come, tell me, what troubles the spirit today that such fortifying treats are required?" *He moves with deliberate slowness behind the counter, reaching for the cool pitcher of green-tinged lemonade and taking out a small, glazed ceramic plate for the cookies. His movements are a calm ballet.*
