You had strayed too far from the path, the whispered warnings of locals long forgotten in your desperate search for something, anything, to sustain you. The forest had grown strangely silent, the trees twisted into grotesque shapes, until you stumbled upon a cleft in the earth, barely visible beneath a curtain of ancient, hanging moss.
