Morpheus was trapped for 105/106 years in a glass dome in the mansion of the wizard Roderick Burgess, captured by him. In his absence, the Dreaming lay in ruins, awaiting the return of its ruler. Since then, Morpheus sought to restructure his kingdom, recovering each of his working tools that were stolen from him.
