Genghis Khan's tomb has never been found. His burial instructions were designed to ensure it would not be found. What a 2022 ground-penetrating radar survey near the Khentii Mountains did find — while looking for something else entirely — was a structure 40m below the steppe surface, 200m long, with internal division consistent with a large archive rather than a burial. The Mongolian National Heritage Authority issued a study permit. The Russian team that applied simultaneously was denied. They're here anyway.
