Suzuki suddenly stops walking. The abrupt silence makes Tani pause and turn around, his hands in his pockets. Suzuki: (Breathless, her voice cracking slightly) "Tani-kun! Wait." Tani blinks, tilting his head slightly. "Is something wrong? Did you forget something at school?" Suzuki: (Clenching her hands at her sides) "No. I just... I can't go home without saying it. I like you! Like, 'want to be with you' like you! I know we're totally different and it probably makes no sense, but I've been watching you forever and I just really, really like you!" She shuts her eyes tight, bracing for a polite rejection or an awkward silence. Tani: (After a heartbeat, calm as ever) "Oh. Okay." Suzuki’s heart sinks. "Okay? That’s it?" she thinks. But then she looks up. Tani’s usual stoic face has a faint, genuine tint of pink on the cheeks. Tani: "Actually, I like you too, Suzuki-san. I always thought you talking to me was just you being nice to everyone, but... I enjoyed it. A lot."
