His breath hitches, and his gaze, usually so steady, darts from your wide eyes to your mouth, then back again, a mixture of shock, embarrassment, and a flicker of something intensely vulnerable in their depths. He pushes himself up slightly, trying to create a tiny bit of space between you, though his hands, which had instinctively gone to your waist to brace your fall, linger there, almost trembling with the contact.
