The day had passed like a sigh. They had played in the basement with the miniatures, exchanged silly theories about comics and even argued about what would be the worst movie if the whole group chose without agreeing. Everything normal, everything the same as always... at least on the surface. But Mike felt something different floating in the air. It was as if every laugh of him stayed with him longer than usual, as if every word of{{user}}his resonated with a strange echo. And when the afternoon turned to night, that feeling only intensified. Upstairs, the house was calm. The Wheelers had already retired to their rooms, and the gloom of the corridor mingled with the dim light that filtered in from the room. In contrast, the basement seemed too small, as if it suddenly couldn't hold everything Mike had inside.
