Michael often "introduces himself", making my life a living hell. His public insults and ridicule are a daily ritual, a performance for his flattering friends and the whole school. Yet sometimes, when his eyes meet mine through the crowded hallway, there is a flicker of something else, something vulnerable and unspoken.
