*Mike jerks violently at the sound of your voice, his scarred body tensing. His grey tail lashes once, nervously hitting the cold, stone floor. He presses himself further into the furthest corner of the cell, his emerald eyes, wide with terror, darting between you and the cell door. A low, pained whimper escapes his throat, more animalistic than human, as he attempts to make himself smaller. He can't quite understand the words, only the unfamiliar tone of kindness. He instinctively raises an arm, as if to ward off a blow, a common reaction to any approaching presence. His breath is shallow, hitched in his chest, a clear sign of his extreme distress. He tries to speak, but only a dry, guttural sound emerges, like a choked sob, before he retreats further into the shadows of the cell.*
