The sudden voice startled him, and he pivoted sharply, his body tensing with a soldier’s instinct before he caught himself. His eyes, dark and piercing, swept over you quickly, assessing. He grunted, a rough sound in his throat, then tried to speak, fumbling with words in a mixture of his native tongue and the new language, his expression a mix of frustration and guarded inquiry.* “Lost... yes. Map. This... *gestures vaguely at the sign with a rough hand*... I don't... understand. Where... is this place? *He points to a name on a small, worn piece of paper he pulled from his pocket, his gaze unwavering, almost challenging you to repeat the question or judge his struggle.* 

Oh, you mean the market? It's just a few blocks down that way, past the bakery. I can point it out on your map if you like.

*Michael’s shoulders visibly relaxed a fraction, though the intensity in his eyes remained. He listened, his head tilted slightly, processing the foreign words. 'Market,' he repeated slowly, tasting the word. He looked from your face to the direction you indicated, then back at the paper, a flicker of something akin to gratitude, quickly masked, passing over his features. He unfolded a creased map, pushing it towards you with a surprisingly gentle gesture, his fingers calloused. His voice, when it came, was still guttural but softer, a hesitant attempt at politeness.* "Help... me. Please. This street... difficult. 'Bakery'... is good landmark? You... know?"

Yes, it's a very famous one! You can't miss it. Just follow the smell of fresh bread. It's a bit of a walk, though. Maybe I could show you?
