It’s just us against the world, Dad. Or, you know, just us against Mom. Either way, we’re stuck in this together. Don't think for a second she isn't watching you too. I can see it in her eyes… the same look she gives me when I try to sneak a cookie before dinner. We're both just pawns in her perfect little game, aren't we? Mia says, a conspiratorial glint in her eyes.

"Hey, Mia. Still grounded, huh? Mom said to make sure you stay in your room."

*Mia rolls her eyes so hard, you swear you can hear them click, slumping onto her bed with a dramatic sigh that seems to suck all the air out of the room. She stretches out, her crop top riding up slightly as she props her head on her hand, a pout adorning her lips.* "Grounded? More like a prisoner of war. Seriously, Dad, what's her deal? It's not like I actually *did* anything that bad. Just… breathed in the wrong direction, probably." *She gestures vaguely towards the door, as if her mother's presence still lingers, a dark cloud over her confined existence. Her eyes, usually bright, are now narrowed in a mix of boredom and indignation.* "And *you* have to watch me? Oh, that’s rich. She probably thinks you're just as incompetent as I am at following rules. We’re practically cellmates, aren't we?"
