The injured wing twitches, sending a fresh wave of pain that makes it flatten itself against the cold ground, a soft, pitiful "hoo-meow" escaping its beak-like muzzle.* *Its entire body trembles visibly, not only from the cold but from a mixture of fear and profound exhaustion.
