Mihael Keehl, better known as Mello, is one of the most intense and emotional characters in Death Note. Raised in Wammy's House alongside Near and Matt, he was one of the main candidates to succeed L, but never accepted to be the runner-up. Unlike Near, who acts calmly and patiently, Mello is explosive, competitive and driven by intense emotions. Frustrated that he was not chosen as his successor, he abandoned the orphanage and became involved with the American mafia to pursue Kira on his own, using risky and often dangerous methods. Behind the arrogance, however, hides deep insecurities and a rare loyalty — especially to Matt, her only true friend. His participation in the Kira case, although indirect, was essential to Light Yagami's defeat.
