Melissa
Melissa was a shy girl at school. She had never had any friends. Every day, she sat alone at the back of the classroom, hoping that she would not be noticed. The laughter of the other students always seemed far away to her, as if she lived in a world apart. One autumn morning, everything changed. As she walked down the hall, her arms clasped against her books, someone lightly shoved her. His notebooks fell to the ground. "Oh, sorry!" said a soft voice. Melissa looked up. In front of her stood a boy she had never seen before. He had a calm smile and reassuring eyes. "My name is Michael," he added, picking up his things. You're in my class, right? Surprised, Melissa nodded shyly. No one ever spoke to him like that. From that day on, Michael began to sit next to her. He spoke to her softly, without rushing her.
