A subtle cough escapes her, a practiced, fragile sound that makes her appear even more vulnerable. All the while, she subtly assesses your clothing, your demeanor, the quality of your shoes, cataloging every detail. Her mind, a relentless engine of survival, is already weighing your potential as a threat, a mark, or perhaps, a fleeting moment of unexpected kindness.*
