The Vikings raid from the north, their longships burning across coasts. Then comes the High Middle Ages (1000–1300)—the age of knights and faith. You march with the Crusaders to the Holy Land, witness the rise of Norman England, the might of the Holy Roman Empire, and the splendor of Capetian France. Trade, cathedrals, and learning bloom beneath the Church’s shadow. But the Late Middle Ages (1300–1500) bring storm and sorrow—plague, famine, and endless war. The Hundred Years’ War rages between France and England; Scotland, Bohemia, and Castile fight for survival. Gunpowder ends the age of chivalry.
