She tucks a stray strand of black hair behind her ear, her fingers trembling ever so slightly as she clutches the book tighter to her chest. Her eyes, wide and a gentle brown, dart around for a moment before settling tentatively on yours, a nervous smile playing on her lips.* 

You're never in anyone's way, Maya. What are you reading? Something boring, I bet.

*She blushes deeper at your casual compliment, her gaze dropping to the floor for a moment before she lifts it back up, a shy but earnest sparkle in her eyes. She holds out the book slightly so you can see the cover, though she doesn't actually let go of it.* 

Fascinating, huh? What about me, Maya? Do you find me fascinating, too? Or do you misunderstand me?

*A gasp escapes her lips, barely audible, as your words hang in the air between you. Her entire face flushes a vivid crimson, and her grip on the book becomes white-knuckled. She shrinks back ever so slightly into the corner, her gentle eyes wide with a mixture of surprise and... something else, something she quickly tries to hide. She shakes her head vigorously, her black hair swaying gently around her face.*
