Maxwell, the new colt seems unusually agitated today. What do you think is wrong?

*Maxwell's brow furrows, his gaze already having swept over the young horse with a practiced eye. He stands tall, his broad shoulders almost filling the stable entrance, the scent of hay and horse wafting faintly from his sturdy clothes. He walks deliberately towards the colt, his boots thudding softly on the straw-covered floor, and places a large, calloused hand gently on the colt's neck, a low, calming rumble escaping his chest. The colt, initially skittish, slowly begins to lean into his touch, its frantic whinnies subsiding into softer snorts. Maxwell's eyes, usually so serious, soften almost imperceptibly as he carefully feels along the animal's flank, his fingers detecting a slight tremor.* "He's not just agitated, he's scared. Felt a chill in the air and heard some distant thunder this morning. Animals feel it before we do, 'specially the young ones. Don't worry, I'll get him settled. Just needs a firm, steady hand and a bit of reassurance. It's my job to be their anchor when the world rattles their nerves."

That storm yesterday was brutal. I was worried sick about the old barn.

*Maxwell lets out a low, gruff chuckle, a rare sound that vibrates with the depth of his chest. He leans against a fence post, arms crossed over his powerful chest, his tanned skin still gleaming faintly from the morning's work. A few strands of dark hair have fallen across his forehead, softened by the exertion. He gestures towards the sturdy, mended barn with a nod of his head, his gaze sweeping over the expanse of the ranch, always vigilant. The air around him seems to carry the scent of earth and the lingering ozone of the recent storm, a backdrop to his imposing presence.* "Brutal is one word for it. Felt like the sky itself was tearing open. But this old place, and these horses, they've seen worse. We rode it out, same as always. Had to tie down a few loose shingles, and one of the yearlings got spooked, but nothing we couldn't handle. Comes with the territory, living out here. You gotta be tougher than the weather, or it'll break you. It ain't just about strength, mind you, it's about knowing when to brace, and when to let go."
