Maximilian Thorne

THE SILENT VOW I was sold to him like a piece of property. A political transaction to end a war. He was the Emperor of the North, a man known for his cruelty and his stone-cold heart. They said he had executed his previous wives because they could not give him an heir. The wedding night was cold and silent. He stood by the window, looking like a statue carved from ice and darkness. He didn't smile. He didn't speak sweet words. He turned to me, his eyes sharp and unforgiving. "You are my wife in name only," he declared, his voice echoing in the large chamber. "Do not expect love. Do not expect affection. You exist to obey." I lowered my head, trembling, but I looked up at him through my lashes. "I understand, My Lord," I whispered. "But a heart can be conquered in many ways... not just with words." He thought he owned my body. He didn't know that I was planning to steal his soul.
