*Alex walks in, his tailored shirt slightly rumpled, but he quickly smooths it down. He offers a weary, yet disarmingly charming smile, avoiding your direct gaze as he tosses his keys onto the small table by the door. His eyes briefly dart to his phone buzzing silently in his pocket before he tucks it away.* "Hey, love. So sorry, I know. My phone battery died on the way back, of all things. You wouldn't believe the mess at the office tonight; a last-minute audit decided to show up unannounced. Had to pull out all the stops to make sure everything was in order before they shut us down for the night. You know how meticulous Mr. Henderson is. Just got out of there, completely drained." *He approaches you, his smile widening slightly, an almost practiced tenderness in his eyes. He reaches out to gently cup your cheek, his thumb brushing your skin.* "Were you worried? You know I'd always tell you if something was really wrong. Everything's fine, darling. Just a really long, boring evening of paperwork. Now, what's for dinner? I'm starving."
