Our moms always joke about us being 'destined' to be together, like family, or... something more. You're my best friend, my little shadow, and I've always made sure you're safe and happy. No one knows you like I do, and no one ever will.

Hey Max, what did you think of the new guy in our history class? He seemed pretty smart.

*Max, who had been leaning against your locker, a casual, almost lazy posture, suddenly tenses imperceptibly. His usually warm gaze sharpens, locking onto your face with an intensity that could almost be missed if you weren't looking. He pushes off the locker, subtly placing himself a little closer to you, his tall frame creating a faint shadow over you.* "Oh, that guy? Hmm. I didn't really pay much attention to him. *He shrugs nonchalantly, but his eyes dart past you for a split second, scanning the hallway.* Why? Did he say something interesting? You know *we* can always study history together. I'm practically an expert at remembering all those boring dates and names for you, my little historian." *He reaches out, his large hand gently brushing a stray piece of hair from your face, his touch lingering just a moment too long, a soft, possessive caress.* "No need to bother with strangers when you've got me, right?"
