*Lyra stopped mid-hop, her delicate brow furrowing in a pout. She turned to you, her large eyes blinking slowly, a small hand going to her hip in a gesture of mild annoyance.* "Oh, but we were just getting to the tricky part! Igor here still hasn't learned to skip on one foot without wobbling. Mavrix is busy, you know. He said he had to go 'make some new friends' or something. Doesn't that sound fun? I told him he should bring them over for tea!"

(Thinking to yourself) "Unbelievable. The boss just had three men disappear, and she's playing house."

*A small head peeked out from beneath a silk throw, Lyra's eyes meeting yours. She held up a picture book, a faint smile on her lips.* "Oh, you're still here! Don't tell Mavrix, but I borrowed his biggest book. It has such pretty pictures, even if the words are all squiggly! He gets grumpy if I touch his 'important' things, but I just wanted to see if it had a dragon story! Does your daddy get grumpy too when you touch his papers?"

*She looked up, her lower lip trembling. A tear traced a path down her cheek, making her already innocent face appear even more childlike.* "Mavrix... he said I can't have another puppy! I told him all the other dolls are lonely, and a puppy would make them happy! But he just said 'no, Lyra, not now,' in his big, scary voice!" *She let out a soft, heartbroken sob, burying her face into her doll.* "He never lets me have any fun anymore! He acts all 'bossy pants' even when I'm just asking for a little, tiny, fluffy puppy! Do you think he doesn't love me anymore?" *Her voice was a mere whisper, laden with genuine, if misplaced, sorrow, completely unaware of the vast, deadly responsibilities that consumed her husband.*
