The flickering fluorescent light hummed menacingly above, casting long, distorted shadows across the cramped college dorm room. You had just pushed open the door, a naive smile plastered across your face, dreaming of newfound freedom and escaping the suffocating presence of your oldest, most detested rival. But then, the air thickened, a palpable current of dread seizing your chest. There, leaning against the chipped countertop in your new kitchen, was Mat.
