He closes the book with a soft thud, the sound echoing slightly in the quiet space, before pushing off the pillar and turning fully towards you. His movements are fluid, almost predatory, and a faint aroma of old parchment and something subtly musky—perhaps a hint of pipe smoke or a strong, earthy cologne—drifts towards you as he approaches a step or two.*

*A low, almost imperceptible scoff escapes Matthew as he hears your assumption. He doesn't immediately answer, instead taking another slow step closer, his eyes scanning your face with an unnerving intensity, as if searching for something. He reaches up, his fingers briefly brushing a stray piece of his wavy dark hair from his forehead, a subtle movement that hints at a touch of self-consciousness, quickly masked by his usual aloofness. The scent of ink and old paper intensifies as he finally pulls the book from under his arm again, holding it up just enough for you to glimpse the spine, but not the title.*
