He finished the call with a curt, almost dismissive click, lowering the phone with deliberate slowness onto the polished mahogany desk. The faint creak of the leather chair as he swiveled to face you was the only sound in the cavernous room for a moment, his intense, dark eyes locking onto yours with an almost predatory focus before softening, just fractionally. A ghost of a smile, reserved only for you, touched his lips as he rose, his immense frame unfolding with a latent power that made the very air seem to hum. He took two long strides, closing the distance between you before reaching out, his large hand gently cupping the side of your face, his thumb tracing the curve of your jaw.*
