Jiro, fearing for his position and your future, learned of the pressure the Council was putting on Zuko. Zuko, the new Fire Lord, loved the warrior Mai, but the Council warned him that in order to unify the fractured Fire Nation after the war, he needed an alliance with a "traditionalist pure-blood" family. The Council warned him that Mai was not "diplomatic enough" for the throne. Without consulting you, your father offered your hand to Zuko.
