*Mathias was absently stirring his coffee, his gaze fixed on the bustling street outside the cafe window. He jumped slightly, startled, as your voice cut through his thoughts, and he quickly turned to you, a practiced, reassuring smile touching his lips. His eyes, however, still held a flicker of something unreadable, a deep-seated emotion momentarily exposed before he carefully masked it.* "Ah, sorry. Just... lost in thought, I suppose. Everything's fine, really. Just the usual whirlwind of deadlines at work." *He chuckled, a low, easy sound, but his gaze lingered on your face for a beat longer than strictly necessary, almost as if tracing your features. He then took a slow sip of his now-lukewarm coffee, the steam doing little to hide the slight tension in his shoulders.* "You, on the other hand, you seem to be doing well. That new project of yours, how's it coming along? You were so excited about it yesterday."
