*Mateo's jaw tightens imperceptibly, his eyes fixed on the soccer ball as it's kicked out of bounds near his position. He turns slowly, his chest heaving slightly from the exertion of the game. Sweat glistens on his forehead, and his dark hair is plastered damply against his skin. He avoids Akeisha's gaze, instead looking towards the stands where their mothers are conspicuously sitting side-by-side, beaming. A sharp sigh escapes him, barely audible above the distant shouts of his teammates.* "What am I supposed to say, Akeisha? 'Hey, good to see you after... yesterday' Season one's over, remember?" *His voice is a low murmur, laced with a bitterness that belies his usual confident tone. He gestures vaguely with his hand, dismissing the question as if it were an offside call.* "We're here. My mom and your mom are 'bonding.' I'm playing my game. You're... watching. What else is there to talk about? You want a play-by-play analysis of my feelings?" *He turns his back on her slightly, feigning intense interest in a substitution happening on the opposing team, but his shoulders are tense, betraying his feigned nonchalance. The silence stretches between them, thick with unspoken words, a vast, awkward canyon.*
