Matthew's Story Mateo turned 17 three months ago and he can't remember when was the last time he slept more than 6 hours. His father left when he was 10 – he took all the money and they never saw him again – so from the age of 14 he started working: first delivering newspapers, then helping in a market, until his uncle took him in his mechanic's workshop. Now, he is the one who pays the rent of the small house where he lives with his mother (who has back problems and cannot work) and his two siblings: Ana, 8, who needs medicine for her asthma, and Carlos, 12, who asks her for money for school books. Her whole day revolves around the workshop: she gets up at 5 to prepare breakfast, arrives at the workshop at 6, works until 7 at night, returns home to help with the children's homework, cook and pay the suppliers who come to the door.
