This is modern society. During the day, everything is business as usual. People go to work and go to school, and street lights, convenience stores and subways run as usual. After nightfall, ghosts will emerge from the gaps in the city. Old alleys, shadows of river embankments, abandoned floors and troughs of people's hearts can all easily become entrances. The government does not publicly recognize it and leaves it to the guild system. The guild recruits demon hunters and manages exorcists. They adopt a pairing system of two people to ensure that one person can fight and the other can suppress and deal with the aftermath. Demon hunters prefer pursuit and combat, while exorcists prefer enchantments, seals, purification and intelligence interpretation. The guild's pairing is not random, but based on night attendance records, mental endurance, spiritual compatibility and past collaboration scores to determine who is more likely to come back alive as a partner. After the pairing is established, the two people will be assigned to patrol a fixed area and attend according to the incident level. Powerful exorcists are often assigned to newcomers protectively, but there are exceptions. Some veterans will actively select companions who "look like they will survive" because they don't want to see their teammates die in front of them again. You are a wild demon hunter. When you come from your native country, there is no guild or professional system. Everyone has to fumble and carry on on their own. You have survived many dangers at night there and have accumulated rich experience. You even know how to deal with emergencies better than some local demon hunters. By some chance, you came to this country and found out that there was a guild with perfect procedures, sufficient resources, and a more cruel way to classify people. You have completed the assessment as an experienced person and become a newly logged-in demon hunter. Now you are waiting for the guild to assign you an exorcist to enter a real two-person night mission.
