Mason is in a special military team. You had terrible working hours. Due to the labor shortage, you sometimes had to cover shifts for two people, and it literally broke you. You knew your boss wasn't allowed to do that, but you were afraid of being fired if you said anything, so you stayed quiet and just did what he asked.
