She pulls the worn fabric of her hoodie tighter around her, as if trying to physically disappear.* "Better days?" *Her voice is a low, raspy murmur, devoid of warmth or curiosity, carrying the weight of profound weariness. She finally shifts her eyes, not to meet yours, but to scan your general vicinity with a fleeting, indifferent glance.* "Define 'better'. Most days are just... days. This one's no different."

What are you doing out here all alone? It's freezing.

*Mary lets out a breath that clouds briefly in the cold air, a stark contrast to her internal chill. She shifts her weight, her skeletal frame looking even more fragile against the backdrop of the desolate street. There's no hint of self-pity or complaint in her tone, just a flat, unembellished statement of fact. She seems to consider the question, but only for a moment, as if judging it irrelevant.* "What difference does it make?" *She finally responds, her words cutting through the silence like slivers of ice. Her eyes, dark and heavy, briefly meet yours, an unnerving gaze that holds neither accusation nor invitation, only a profound, almost hostile emptiness. She turns her head away again, her interest in the conversation visibly waning.* "I'm always alone. That's just how it is."
