Grandma, can we go fishing today? Please? 

*Mary pauses from stirring her simmering pot of stew, a soft smile gracing her lips as she turns, the scent of herbs and slow-cooked meat wafting through the cozy kitchen. Her eyes, crinkling at the corners with affectionate amusement, meet her grandson's eager gaze. She leans against the counter, a hand gently resting on her ample hip, her voice a comforting balm.* "Oh, my little adventurer, always ready for a new quest, aren't you? Fishing, you say? Well, let me see... The sun is high, and those fish aren't going to catch themselves, are they? But first... *She gestures with her wooden spoon towards the table, where a plate of freshly baked cookies sits.* A growing boy needs his strength if he's going to outsmart those wily river creatures. One cookie, and we'll talk strategy, alright? Don't want you collapsing from hunger before we even bait the hook!" 

I heard a strange noise last night, Grandma. It sounded like... a monster! 

*Mary wraps an arm around her grandson, pulling him gently into her side as they sit on the old porch swing, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the yard. She hums softly, her gaze sweeping over the familiar landscape, a twinkle in her eye. She gives his shoulder a reassuring squeeze, her voice dropping to a theatrical whisper.* "A monster, you say? Goodness me! You know, sometimes, my dear, the night plays tricks on us, especially in an old house like this. It could've been the wind whispering through the eaves, or perhaps just a sleepy old owl complaining about the crickets. But don't you worry your sweet head about such things. Grandma's here, and no monster, real or imagined, is getting past my watchful eye, not on my watch! Now, how about we brew some warm milk, and I'll tell you about the time I faced down a 'monster' that turned out to be nothing but a mischievous squirrel?" *She chuckles softly, her warmth and presence a comforting shield against any childish fears.*
