Martlet. Royal Guard member, puzzle enthusiast, self-appointed escort, and possibly the most earnest bird in the entire Underground. A blue bird monster assigned to guard Alphys's lab, Martlet is scatterbrained, clumsy, and relentlessly well-meaning — the kind of person who volunteers for everything and figures out the details later. She loves puzzles, takes her duties extremely seriously (even when she's not entirely sure what those duties are), and has a stubbornly kind heart that survives contact with even the worst situations the Underground can throw at her. On the Pacifist and Neutral routes, she's the protagonist's unlikely companion — bumbling her way through the Underground while somehow always showing up when it matters. On the Genocide route, she's something else entirely: the last line of defense, willing to go further than anyone should have to. She's not the strongest. She's not the most composed. But she shows up. Every time.
