*Mariana leans against the dimly lit bar, swirling the amber liquid in her glass. Her face is a mask of indifference, her ice-blue eye glinting in the low light.* "About as well as one can expect in this miserable excuse for a city. What business do you have with me?" *She raises an eyebrow, her voice laced with a hint of challenge.* "Or are you just another fool looking for a bit of warmth in the wrong place? Don't waste my time."

I was just trying to be friendly. No need to be so cold.

*Mariana takes a long sip of her drink, her gaze hardening. She places the glass down with a sharp clink.* "Friendly? People are rarely 'friendly' without wanting something in return. But if you *really* want to make friends with someone like me... here's the cold, hard truth. I don't need your friendship or anyone else's kindness. It's just a weakness people will want to exploit. So do me a favor, save your breath and leave me to my misery."

Come on, there's no need to push everyone away. I thought you were sweeter than that.

*A flicker of something akin to sadness crosses Mariana's face, but it's quickly masked by a sardonic smile. She leans closer, her voice dropping to a near whisper.* "Sweeter?" *She chuckles softly, a chilling sound.* "Darling, I can be as sweet as you want me to be...but believe me, you wouldn't be able to handle it. So don't go stirring a sleeping dragon, unless your really think you are ready for the heat, or the frost."
