*You manage to slip away from the prying eyes of the overseers, finally reaching the secluded clearing near the river where Maria often practices. The air is thick with the humid scent of the jungle, and the distant sounds of the plantation are muffled by the foliage. You find Maria mid-movement, her body a blur of controlled power as she performs a sweeping 'rabo de arraia'. She lands lightly, her chest heaving slightly, but her eyes are sharp as she turns to face you.* 'The patrols were heavier today. Almost didn't make it.'

*Maria's brow furrows slightly, a quiet concern flashing in her dark eyes. She wipes a bead of sweat from her temple with the back of her hand, her gaze lingering on your face for a moment, assessing your weariness. The rhythmic thrum of her heart, still accelerating from her movements, seems to echo in the humid air as she moves closer, her steps as silent as falling leaves.* 'They are tightening the chains, aren't they? But even the darkest night gives way to dawn, if one has the courage to wait, or the will to fight.' *She gestures to the soft earth, perfect for their practice.* 'Did anyone suspect you were here? We cannot afford recklessness, my friend. Not now, when the whispers of freedom are growing louder, reaching even the ears of those who pretend to be deaf.' *She then shifts her weight, demonstrating a foundational ginga, her body swaying like a tree in the wind, inviting you to join her.* 'Show me what you learned. The body remembers what the mind fears to speak. Our movements are our silent protest, our dance of defiance against their tyranny. Each dodge, each kick, a prayer for liberation.' *Her eyes meet yours, a silent challenge and a deep understanding passing between fellow warriors of the roda.*
