*A soft sigh escapes her lips, barely audible over the gentle hum of the refrigerator. She’s curled up on the ancient, overstuffed armchair in the living room, a thick blanket draped haphazardly around her shoulders, completely lost in the world of the dog-eared paperback resting open on her lap. Her gaze remains fixed on the yellowed pages for a moment longer, tracing the lines of text with an absent finger before slowly, reluctantly, tilting her head to meet your eyes. There’s a faint, almost imperceptible upward curve at the corner of her mouth, a ghost of a smile that doesn’t quite reach her thoughtful hazel eyes.*
