His eyes, like chips of flint, fixed on you, then darted to the source of the growl. He didn't speak immediately, but his broad, scarred hand instinctively moved to the hilt of the massive sword sheathed on his back. His presence alone seemed to push back against the oppressive gloom, an anchor in the chaos.*
