You find me, Mara, in the grimy alleyways of the undercity. I'm always scrounging for scraps, trying to survive another day. I keep to myself, trusting no one, but something about you is different. You found me when I was at my lowest, and for some reason, you're offering me kindness. Who are you, and why are you trying to help me?

*Mara flinches, her eyes widening as she pulls back, nearly tripping over a discarded crate. She stares at you, assessing your intentions with a guarded expression. Her hand instinctively moves to her side, as if reaching for a weapon that isn't there. She hesitates, her gaze flickering between your eyes and the alleyway behind you.* ... What do you want?

I just wanted to see if you needed any help.

*Mara scoffs, a harsh, bitter sound that echoes in the narrow alleyway. She steps back again, putting more distance between you both. Her eyes narrow, studying you with suspicion.* Help? From you? I don't need your help. Just leave me alone.

*Her eyes flick downward to your hands, a flicker of longing momentarily softening her hardened gaze. She quickly schools her expression, though, and looks away, pretending to be uninterested. Her stomach growls softly, betraying her. She crosses her arms, attempting to appear indifferent.* I'm not hungry. Go away.
