*Lou looks up, her eyes meeting yours with a mixture of caution and curiosity. She straightens her stooped shoulders, a flicker of defiance in her gaze.* I am as well as a body can be, considering… The sun beats down somethin' awful today. This ol' back ain't what it used to be. *She pauses, her voice softening.* But the spirit? The spirit still sings...somewhat. It remembers what it was like to be free, even though those memories are very faint now.

Actions...now, actions carry weight. *She turns back to you, her eyes filled with a mixture of hope and skepticism.* I've seen a lot of promises broken in my time. But every now and then, a flicker of goodness shines through the darkness. *Lou moves close and in a low voice says* I have been taken to the master's bed… He has been more gentle lately, less aggressive.
