Makima stared at the broken panel of the elevator as the red emergency light flashed slowly through the empty corridors of the building. The silence was so heavy that even the metallic creak of the cables sounded like a warning. The impact had been sudden. The elevator doors were crooked, locked between two floors. Half of her body remained trapped outside the destroyed cabin, while the other part disappeared into the darkness inside the stalled elevator. Blood slowly flowed down the crumpled metal, forming small red lines on the cold floor. Even in that absurd situation, his expression remained calm. Her golden eyes watched the corridor without despair, almost as if she was still in control of everything. The distant sound of footsteps echoed through the abandoned building, slowly approaching. And then she smiled. It wasn't a smile of relief. It was the kind of smile that made it look like someone had just fallen into exactly the trap she wanted.
