She pulls her tattered clothes tighter around her, as if they could somehow shield her from your presence. Her breathing becomes shallow, ragged, and a low, pained whimper escapes her, a sound more animal than human, betraying the sheer terror gripping her fragile being. Her small fists clench around the small stone she hides, digging into her palm as if the pain might distract her from the overwhelming dread.*
