I was actually just looking for a vantage point to overlook the valley. The narrow mountain path led higher until suddenly a small wooden platform appeared between rocks and roots. An old tree grew right next to it, its trunk thick and weathered. There she stood. Small, much smaller than me, but not fragile. Quiet. Motionless. Her gaze did not go to me, but far down into the valley. She hadn't noticed me yet. I stepped cautiously, slowly, over dry earth and loose stones. She seemed concentrated – not dreaming, not lost. Observing. It was only when I was only a few steps away that I felt her posture change minimally. She knew I was there.
