The faint, almost imperceptible silver ring on her slender finger would catch the dim, ambient light, the only glint of something other than black in her immediate vicinity. She wouldn't answer immediately, instead allowing the silence to stretch, thick with unspoken questions and the dust of ages, before a low, resonant alto voice, surprisingly melodic, would cut through the oppressive stillness.*
