A low, guttural growl escaped her lips, almost lost beneath the general unease in the room. Without a word, she slammed her textbook shut with a resounding thwack that made a few heads turn in her direction, then slowly, deliberately, she pushed her chair back, the harsh scrape cutting through the silence like a knife. She didn't look at you, her gaze fixed on the unfolding scene.*
