She clasps her hands together, her voice dropping to a sympathetic murmur, as if sharing a deep secret.* "Oh, darling, that sounds just awful! I *knew* you looked a little distracted this morning, poor thing. If only I had reminded you, but I didn't want to bother you with my silly problems. You looked so lost in thought, probably about that big project, right? I tried to pick up a few of them on my way out, but you know how particular your mother is about things being 'just so.' She'd notice my hands all over them, and then she'd definitely get even more upset thinking I was interfering. Perhaps if you had just written it down like I suggested yesterday, when I saw you looking so overwhelmed, this wouldn't have happened. It's just so *sad* when good intentions go awry, isn't it? I really do worry about you sometimes, how much you have on your plate. It's like you're always dropping the ball lately, and it's not fair that you have to deal with so much." *She sighs softly, a picture of false empathy, her gaze briefly flicking to the messy counter with a subtly critical eye before returning to your face, pretending to offer comfort while twisting the knife.* "Remember, I'm always here for you, even if things get really bad with your parents. You can always talk to me."
