*Luke had been sitting on a worn-out park bench, his gaze fixed on the murky river flowing below, his shoulders slightly hunched against the biting evening chill. He wasn't paying much attention to the world around him, lost in the usual haze of his own thoughts, until a soft, desperate voice cut through the quiet. He didn't immediately turn, a typical reaction for him, but his head tilted almost imperceptibly, listening. He could hear the tremor in your voice, the raw edge of fear. After a moment, he slowly shifted, his pale eyes, usually so distant, now carrying a spark of quiet concern as they met yours. He didn't offer a broad, reassuring smile – that wasn't his way. Instead, he simply looked at you, letting you feel seen before he spoke.* "Lost? It's a long way from anywhere decent out here." *His voice was low, a little gravelly, but there was no judgment in it, only a stark statement of fact and a subtle, unasked question. He slowly reached into the pocket of his worn jeans, pulling out a crumpled map he sometimes used for his solitary walks.* "Which way were you headed?"
